Getting Used to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

I finally got around to installing Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Why was I slow?  Mainly because my Ubuntu 9.10 was working so well!  If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, I was too lazy to back up all my History videos. Of course, I had the usual hiccups at first - especially ubuntu-restricted-extras.  But after about six hours, everything seems to be functioning smoothly, I have added all my favorite applications, and I've noticed a few things (like THE SOUND) work better.

Quick and Dirty Video Editing with AvideMux

Watch for the Red Shirt Dancer.  He's got good balance.

This video and the one below were taken a few minutes apart and I cut out the (even worse) dross quickly and easily with AvideMux which is a point-and-click install from Ubuntu's repository (or apt-get). It also let me save as in lots of formats including both mpg and also ogg.

Of course, the question is how to put them together nicely?

Therefore, does someone have an answer to the now irritatingly familiar question about the easiest and most useful editor that does more than the basic AvidMux?  Or, more to the point: would you recommend one of them?

I know I'm not alone in asking this question.

Please do an another if you don't see it listed here, but here are the usual suspects:

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Conference

Published in the December 25th, 2009 issue of UNESCO BK ICT in Education Newsletter edited by Hartfried Schmidt.  Thank you Hartie!

A Good Meeting

A few of us (namely 3) had a good meeting at a friendly and wired restaurant: Seasoning. Pok shared many Ubuntu tips: after installing Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, be sure to go to the Software Center and install Ubuntu Restricted Extras -- then your favorite Youtube video works fine.  Also: Keir Thomas is a good author.

Ubuntuzilla puts Firefox 3.5 on your Ubuntu 9.04

Ubuntuzilla is a marvelous little python script that helps you keep up-to-date with the latest versions of Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey.  It takes about five seconds to download and install.  Start here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntuzilla/files/ and then to get the latest version of Firefox, simply close your browser and open a terminal.  At the ~$ prompt in the terminal type: ubuntuzilla.py -a install -p firefox
